Narragansett police charge a Providence man with felony assault after he allegedly uses a knife to threaten someone.

Providence Man, RIC Student Charged After Allegedly Threatening Man With Knife
George J. West, 20, of 99 Isabella Ave., Providence, was arrested at about 6:20 p.m. on July 9 and charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon. Police said West is a student at Rhode Island College.

According to police, a man on Wandsworth Street told them that he was playing badminton with his daughter in the front yard when he saw West slam his mailbox shut.
The man said when he confronted West about this, they had an argument that escalated, with West eventually pulling a knife out.

Police said a search of the nearby area revealed West and a friend on Wandsworth Street. Police noted that West did not have a knife on him, but there was a three-inch knife in the grass in the nearby area.
As a result, West was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Police said that during processing, West asked them, “What is the penalty for taking your knife out but not using it on someone?”
West was process, arraigned before a justice of the peace and released at about 8:40 p.m.
Charlie O’s in Compliance with Noise Regulations
At about 12:43 a.m. on July 9, police did a compliance check on Charlie O’s regarding the town noise ordinance.
According to police, an officer took several decibel readings from 12:55 a.m. to 1 a.m. Police said the volume ranged from 46.7 to 70.2, depending on the passing traffic and patrons exiting, but never surpassed the mark of 75 allowed by the ordinance in a business zone.
Police said they received a complaint about the noise at about 12:45 a.m. They informed the owner of Charlie O’s of their findings as well.
