Narragansett Police Log: March 8, 9 and 10, 2012
An East Greenwich resident is charged with obstruction, and several are cited for driving violations.

East Greenwich Man, CCRI Student Arrested, Charged With Obstruction
Shane Gerrit Hulstyn, 19, of 95 Rector St., East Greenwich, was arrested at about 6:46 a.m. on March 10 and charged with obstruction. Police said he is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island.

According to police, at about 6:15 a.m. they received a report of a man struck in the head with a bottle on Clara Lane. Narragansett Fire also responded to the scene, and treated a man for a heavy laceration at the top of his head.
Police said Hulstyn appeared to be heavily intoxicated. He allegedly told police that the victim was running around the house, slipped, and fell on a wine bottle. Police told Hulstyn that based on the evidence at the scene, that appeared to be highly unlikely, but he would not change his story.

According to police, the victim told them that Hulstyn had thrown a bottle at him, which struck him in the head. When informed of this, Hulstyn still refused to change his statement to police, and he was arrested and charged with obstruction.
Police said after further investigation, the incident appeared to be an accident between two family members. As a result, no assault charges were filed.
Narragansett Woman Cited for Expired License
Sonya M. Nesmith, 33, of 167 Winterberry Road, Narragansett, was cited at about 12:16 a.m. on March 8 and charged with driving with an expired license.
According to police, an officer patrolling traffic on Lakeside Drive near Bridgetown Road clocked a silver Jeep Liberty driven by Nesmith at 40 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on Boston Neck Road near Edgewater Road.
Police said a background check on Nesmith revealed that her license had expired in December 2011. Nesmith told police she was unaware that her license had expired.
Nesmith was cited for the violation. A friend with a valid driver’s license drove Nesmith and the car from the scene.
Whoops – Friend Blows Cover; Pawtucket Woman Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor
Britney R. Guedes, 20, of 85 Raymond Ave., Pawtucket, was cited at about 9:08 p.m. on March 8 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.
According to police, an officer noted a car driven by Guedes with a non-functioning rear plate light. A traffic stop was made on Knowlesway.
Police said when Guedes was asked if there was any alcohol in the car, she told police there was not. Police noted that Guedes had two licenses in her possession, one belonging to a Massachusetts woman that Guedes claimed was her friend.
When police asked a passenger in the car if there was any alcohol in the car, police said the passenger opened the glove box and handed them a bottle of Svedka vodka. The passenger was 21, police said.
Guedes was cited for transportation of alcohol by a minor. The ID was also determined to be fake, and was confiscated. Guedes was allowed to drive from the scene.
Fake ID Confiscated from URI Student
George Clayton Crume, 19, of the Lower College Road apartments at the University of Rhode Island, was cited at about 10:45 p.m. on March 8 for possession of a fake ID.
According to police, a bouncer at the Bon Vue Inn asked them to check a Texas ID given to him by Crume. Police said a check of the ID revealed that it was fake.
Crume was cited, and the ID was confiscated.
