Trio of URI Students Cited for Noise Ordinance Violation at Loud Party

Maurice Mizrahi, 19, Sean W. Furney, 20, and Kristopher J. Selvaggi, 20, all of 20 Lilly Lane, Narragansett, were cited at about 12:49 a.m. on Sept. 18 and charged with a residential noise ordinance violation. Police noted that all three are University of Rhode Island students.

According to police, an officer with a decibel meter had the noise emanating from 20 Lilly Lane at more than 60 decibels. As a result. the tenants – Mizrahi, Furney and Selvaggi – were issued citations. The management company was identified as Blooming Houses.

Police said a loud party with about 60 to 80 people was occurring at the home. Police noted that 23 cars were cited for being illegally parked, and that there were cups, cans and bottles strewn about the surrounding area.

URI Students, Roommates Cited for Alcohol

Justin C. Haskard, 21, and Timothy Goodwin, 21, both of 32 Palm Beach Ave., were cited at about 12:03 a.m. on Sept. 18 for consumption of alcohol.

According to police, an officer patrolling saw two men, later identified as Haskard and Goodwin, holding beer bottles near the intersection of Point Judith Road and Houston Avenue.

Police confirmed that they were holding bottles of Sam Adams, and both were cited. The beer was confiscated.

URI Student Cited for Underage Possession of Alcohol

Brandon S. Moore, 19, of 1 Mohegan Trail, Westerly, was cited at about 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 and charged with underage possession of alcohol. Police said Moore is a University of Rhode Island student.

According to police, an officer patrolling Exeter Boulevard saw Moore walking with a clear plastic bag containing several cans of beer. A background check revealed that he was 19.

Police said Moore was cited, and the beer – six cans of an unidentified 12-ounce beer – was confiscated and disposed of.

Police Break Up Loud Party on Summit Road

At about 12:08 a.m., police received a report of a loud party at 35 Summit Road.

According to police, about 50 to 75 people were in the home, with one car cited for illegal parking. Police said the renters were cooperative and the house was cleared quickly.

Police identified the tenants as 20-year-olds Jennifer A. Beal and Haele I. Turner. Both are University of Rhode Island students. The property is owned by Florence Downs, according to online property records.

Police Break Up Party on Kingston Lane

At about 1:09 a.m. on Sept. 18, police received a report of a loud party on Lincoln Way. However, en route to Lincoln Way, police determined that the noise was instead emanating from 8 Kingston Lane.

According to police, about 30 to 40 people were present, and nine to 11 cars were illegally parked. Police said the noise emanating from the house was low, however, and there were no signs of litter.

As a result, the party was broken up and no violations were issued.

Police Return to Cypress Avenue for Fifth Time This Year

At about 2:46 a.m. on Sept. 18, police received a report of a fight on the lawn of a Cypress Avenue home.

Police said they investigated and determined that the fighting was just horseplay. The men were told to go back to their residence at 39 Cypress Ave.  The only participant identified was 19-year-old John M. Devereaux, who is a University of Rhode Island student.

Police noted that this was the fifth time they have had to respond to this home on Cypress Avenue. As a result, the community police unit was notified, although the renters were cooperative.

Man Magically Finds Purses on Front Porch

At about 8:18 p.m. on Sept. 18, police received a report of two bags full of purses and food at a home on Winterberry Road.

According to police, the homeowner, a 50-year-old Narragansett man, said that when he came home he saw the bags on his front step. He said they were not his, and none of his neighbors knew where they came from.

An inventory of the bags was conducted:

  • A large back and white tote
  • A plastic bag filled with canned food
  • A medium black purse
  • A small white purse
  • A medium East Coast Company black purse
  • A medium Connection brown purse
  • A medium black canvas purse
  • A medium Sophia red purse
  • A small Renaissance brown and gold purse
  • Two large snakeskin black purses
  • A small Liz Claborne gray purse
  • A bag of lace drapes

Police noted that none of the purses contained personal effects, and all of the items seemed to be new. Police logged the items into the evidence storage closet.
