Narragansett Police Log: September 27 and 28, 2011

According to Middletown Police, a friend of a Narragansett resident almost overdosed on heroin.

Narragansett Man Arrested in Middletown for Heroin Possession

According to , Joshua B. Campbell, 26, of 45 Marion Ave., Narragansett, was arrested at about 6:39 p.m. on Sept. 27 on a felony charge of heroin possession.

According to the arrest report, Middletown police and fire department rescue workers had responded to the parking lot at West Marine on West Main Road for a report of man in a car not breathing.

Campbell was doing chest compressions on the unconscious man when emergency workers arrived, ordered him to stop and took over treatment for what first appeared to be a seizure.

As emergency workers became suspicious of drugs being involved and police began to search the car, Campbell walked away from the scene. Police stopped Campbell as he was walking on West Main Road near the JFK School for further questioning and he allegedly admitted to having heroin in his possession and that the unconscious man had been doing heroin.

Police allegedly seized heroin from Campbell's lunch bag and under his hat. He was immediately arrested without further incident.

Police advised rescue workers via radio of the possible drug overdose and rescue workers back at the scene were able to treat and revive the unconscious man accordingly. Police later reported the patient was in good condition.

Cranston Woman Arrested for Warrant

Margy Ruiz, 38, of 26 Princess Ave., Cranston, was arrested at about 1:12 a.m. on Sept. 28. Police said there was a Third Division District Court warrant out for her arrest for failing to appear in court for a misdemeanor shoplifting charge.

According to police, an officer patrolling on Point Judith Road saw a maroon Dodge minivan with its driver’s door open parked at a gas station. The officer noted that the minivan had been there earlier in the shift.

Police said they interviewed the driver of the minivan, who said that he had gotten a flat tire and was waiting for a friend to bring him a jack. As a precaution, police checked the backgrounds of the driver and Ruiz, who was a passenger in the car.

The driver came up negative for any warrants, but the check revealed the warrant for Ruiz. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters, to await arraignment in the morning.

South Kingstown Man Cited for Suspended License

Timothy S. Blaney, 37, of 3902F Goose Berry Road, Wakefield, was cited at about 9:59 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer patrolling the Galilee Escape Road saw a car driven by Blaney go through a stop sign at Great Island Road without stopping. A traffic stop was made.

Police said a background check revealed that Blaney’s license was suspended. The car’s registration was also expired, which Blaney was also cited for.
