News You Can Use On Patch Local Stream
Want to stream movies from the library over your home TV (without actually going to the library and checking them out)? Here's a way.

NEWPORT, RI — Patch subscribers typically know the Local Stream comes up on the Patch platform for the local city or town. It's not on the Patch Facebook pages, though. If you haven't checked it out recently, here's some useful news the library provided recently.
The Newport Public is one of many libraries offering 'Hoopla on the big screen," which means you can watch movies and TV shows at home for free and you don't have to go to the library to check them out and return them.
The library supports the Hoopla app, which sends movies and other media (eBooks, television series, graphic novels, music, and audiobooks) to your devices. But the big news here is the big screen capability.

The app works with the Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, Android TV, and Apple TV. So you can stream the shows to your home television. If you are looking for a free alternative to cable, Hoopla's an option.
You do need your library card number for the virtual checkout. And you have to watch the selection within a couple of days.

There are a few steps, but YouTube has some videos that take you through the steps. Basically, you go to the main menu on Fire Stick and open the Hoopla app. It will give you a four-digit code. You go back to the Hoopla webpage, dial up your account, and type in the code. Then you can start watching.
