Peacedale Man Charged For Allegedly Flashing Gun

James B. Brennan, 65, is accused of threatening two men with a gun after his rocks hit their truck while he was mowing his lawn.

James B. Brennan, 65, of 231 Curtis Corner Road, Peacedale, was arrested at about 5:49 p.m. on July 25 and charged with felony assault.

According to police, they were called to a home on Curtis Corner Road after receiving a 911 call. The caller told a dispatcher that an elderly man had pointed a gun at them.

Police said that when they arrived, they saw Brennan sitting on a stone wall, and a green truck parked in his driveway with two men in it.

The two men told police that Brennan was mowing his lawn, and debris from the mower shot out into the street, hitting their truck. They said when they confronted Brennan with this information, he pulled out a gun and asked them if they wanted to fight.

The men said that after threatening them with the gun, Brennan went back into his home and returned a minute later without it.

Police said when they asked Brennan about the incident, he denied having a gun. However, they noted that when they went into Brennan’s home, the gun was on his bed in an open case.

Brennan was arrested without incident. Police confiscated the gun. He is scheduled for a felony screening hearing on Sept. 4.

According to online records, Brennan only has one previous arrest. In May 1995, a North Kingstown police charge of drunken driving was dismissed.
