Plea: Defendant Gives Up Gun Until July

As part of a plea bargain, Adam Cafferty, 23, agrees to give up a gun until July 2013.

Adam Cafferty, 23, of 79 Frank Ave., West Kingstown, pleaded no contest on Feb. 6 to a South Kingstown police charge of disorderly conduct.

Cafferty was ordered to surrender a gun until July 9, when a no-contact order between him and a 21-year-old man will expire. He was also ordered to pay $90 in assessments.

In return for his plea, additional charges of felony domestic assault and domestic assault were dismissed.

According to South Kingstown police reports included in court files, on March 8 they received a report of a dispute between Cafferty and another family member.

Police said that after taking witness statements and investigating, Cafferty was arrested. A .40 caliber handgun, which police said Cafferty used to threaten a family member, was confiscated.

According to online records, Cafferty has one previous arrest. On Feb. 28, a Richmond police charge of reckless driving from January 2013 was dismissed.

Motions to expunge and seal for Cafferty’s South Kingstown case are scheduled for July 15.
