Are You Happy With the Town Manager’s Performance?

The council has scheduled a review of his job in executive session tomorrow night.

EDITOR'S NOTE: There used to be a poll associated with this article. However, since some people apparently can't resist voting Providence-style (early and often), I've disabled it.

According to a filing with the Secretary of State, the Narragansett Town Council will reconvene after a work session on Tuesday night to discuss the job performance of Town Manager Grady Miller.

The meeting was first reported by The Providence Journal’s 7 to 7 news blog, followed by a full story by The South County Independent.

According to the Journal’s report, councilor Christopher Wilkens expressed support for the job done by Miller. Councilor Susan Cicilline-Buonanno is quoted as supporting Miller in the story by the Independent.

However, at the last council meeting, Council President Glenna Hagopian and Council Vice President David Crook both severely criticized proposed spending and budget allocations by Miller. According to the Journal and the Independent, the meeting was called by Hagopian.

If the council held a vote to determine whether or not to fire Miller, the swing vote most likely belongs to councilor Alisa Trainor Fleet.

Tomorrow night’s meeting could be heavily attended, although Miller’s job performance review would be held in a private executive session. Narragansett Patch has been forwarded several e-mails from residents asking friends and family members to come to Tuesday’s meeting to support Miller.

The council meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. to discuss work between the council and the charter review commission on charter review findings and recommendations. The performance review for Miller would begin after the work session. Open forum is not a part of either meeting agenda.
