Prepare Your Pies for the Pumpkin Festival!
Think you've got the best pie in town? Show it off at the annual pumpkin and apple pie contest at the Pumpkin Festival.
The Town of Narragansett will host an Apple Pie and a Pumpkin Pie Baking contest in conjunction with their Annual Pumpkin Festival on Sunday, Oct. 16, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farm.
The contest is open to anyone. The rules:
- Bake your best one or two crust apple pie using whichever apple variety or combination of apples you like best.
- For pumpkin pies, you can use fresh or canned pumpkin.
- Crust for both pies must be made from scratch.
- Contestants may enter one pie each in both the Apple and Pumpkin Category.
- Apples must make up 75 percent of the ingredients of the apple pies. Any variety of apples may be used. Any other ingredients can be used as long as they do not make up more than 25 percent of the filling.
- Bring your pie in an eight to 10-inch disposable pie pan, with your name affixed to the bottom of the pie pan.
- Present your freshly baked homemade apple pie and/or pumpkin pie between noon and 12:30 pm inside The Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farm. Judging will begin at 1 p.m. There is no cost to enter.
- Pies will be judged on appearance, taste and texture.
At the conclusion of the contest, slices of all of the entries will be offered to the public for a monetary contribution.
