RI New Year: Most Polar Plunges Are Postponed

Jamestown has postponed the Jan. 1 plunges, due to extreme cold. And the list is growing.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — The very cold weather has forced several communities to postpone the Jan. 1 plunge. Jamestown, according to police Chief Ed Mello, will not hold its annual Jamestown Plunge on New Year's Day but have opted to postpone it.

"Event organizers will determine a new date in the near future," he said.

Meanwhile, in Narragansett, the Penguin Plunge at Roger Wheeler State Beach is also postponed. It's the same story at Narragansett Town Beach, at First Beach (Easton's) in Newport, at the Town Beach in North Kingstown and at Goddard Park, East Greenwich. The organizers will reschedule.
