RI Weather: Cold Start Tuesday But Then A Warm-Up

The cold is on the way out, but now there's a chance of extended rain later this week.

NARRAGANSETT, RI—Freezing temperatures Monday night into Tuesday morning could bring black ice, the National Weather Service is warning. But after the cold start, temperatures will moderate this week. Wednesday will be the first night temperatures stay above freezing at the coast. For Woonsocket, Thursday will be the first night out of freezing territory. Then Thursday night, another weather challenge is coming. After we come through this cold spell, we could have to deal with an extended period of rain is in the forecast possibly lasting into Saturday night. But that's not until Thursday.

Today
A chance of rain and snow, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Southwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tonight
Rain and snow likely before 8pm, then a chance of snow between 8pm and 10pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 32. Southwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Mostly clear, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
