Sand Angel World Record Attempt Set for Narragansett Town Beach

May 7 attempt to set a Guinness World Record is all about raising awareness of orphans, foster children and adoption.

NARRAGANSETT, RI—Narragansett Town Beach will be the site of a world-record attempt on May 7.

In an effort to raise awareness about adoption and all the orphans and foster children throughout the state, Lions of Rhode Island has partnered with Adoption Rhode Island to organize the record-breaking attempt.

More than 400 people from all walks of life are invited to come between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to make a sand angel.

The current world record for most people making sand angels simultaneously is held by Keep Wales Tidy, where about 400 people gathered at Freshwater Beach in Wales to raise awareness about coastal and environmental issues.

According to a Facebook event post, RSVPs are sought in advance to get an accurate headcount to ensure the record is broken.

The RI Lions District Council No. 42 got approval from the Narragansett Town Council to conduct the attempt in February.

Steven Fabrizio of the RI Lions told the Town Council that they expected as many as 1,500 people helping the effort to get recognition from Guinness World Records.

The RI Lions have also agreed to pay for three hours of beach raking after the event, which happens to coincide with an Eco-Depo being held that day in the North Beach parking lot.

The town does not anticipate conflicts between the events because parking will be available in the West and South lots for volunteers.

To participate, head over to the Meetup Group formed by organizers.

Project Sand Angels has also set up a Facebook page.
