SK Police Log: December 24, 2012

A South Kingstown woman is charged with assault, and a high schooler is charged with possession.

South Kingstown Woman Charged With Assault

Margaret Hazard, 55, of 188 High St., Apt. #A, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 8:42 p.m. on Dec. 24 and charged with assault.

According to police, they received multiple reports of Hazard causing a disturbance on High Street via yelling and shouting. A 22-year-old Peacedale man also told police that Hazard had punched him in the face.

Police said an initial attempt to locate Hazard at about 6:20 p.m. was unsuccessful, but after more complaints she was found and arrested about two hours later. Hazard told police she had punched the man in the face, but she said it was over a dispute about the man and his father being loud.

Hazard was processed and then released at about 10:24 p.m.

SKHS Student Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Brenton Bavasso, 18, of 355 Mautucket Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:32 p.m. on Dec. 24 and charged with possession of marijuana. Police said Bavasso is a student at South Kingstown High School.

According to police, an officer was making a U-turn at Tuckertown Park when he noticed a mason jar behind the tire of Bavasso’s car.

Police said the officer got out of his squad car, confirmed that there was marijuana in the jar, and arrested Bavasso. A search of Bavasso’s car revealed a scale, a marijuana grinder and a second mason jar with marijuana residue.

According to police, Bavasso was processed at headquarters and then released at about 2:03 p.m.
