3 More Charged With Drinking and Driving

Coventry Man Charged With Drunken Driving
Paulo J. Palrao, 41, of 160 Gervais St., Coventry, was arrested at about 9:33 p.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test and driving with open alcohol containers.

According to police, an officer came across a truck driven by Palrao stopped in the middle of Tower Hill Road, with its turn signal on. Police said that as they approached the truck, it resumed driving, but the gas tank door was open, and the truck was swerving on Route 1.
Police said a traffic stop was made following the South County Commons intersection. Police said the car smelled strongly of alcohol and sprayed perfume.

According to police, Palrao consented to field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed. Police said that Palrao told the arresting officer that she had “a beautiful finger” while she was attempting to conduct one portion of the tests.
Police said Palrao was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. A passenger in the truck was also too intoxicated to drive, and the truck was towed as a result.
According to police, Palrao refused to submit to chemical breath tests at headquarters. He was processed and then released at about midnight. An inventory of the truck revealed open cans and bottles of Coors Light, which Palrao was also cited for.
Connecticut Man Charged With Drunken Driving
Justin K. Crerar, 21, of 302 Shore Drive, Branford, CT, was arrested at about 2:05 a.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with drunken driving.
According to police, an officer clocked a blue Jetta driven by Crerar at 45 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone on Kingstown Road near Buckley Heating and Cooling. A traffic stop was made near Dam Street.
Police said Crerar smelled strongly of alcohol and was severely slurring his words, telling them, “I just want to get home.”
According to police, Crerar consented to field sobriety tests, which he failed. Police said he was then arrested, and chemical breath tests at headquarters revealed blood alcohol levels of .114 at 3:25 a.m. and .111 at 3:27 a.m.
Police said Crerar was processed and then released at about 4:35 a.m.
Warwick Teen Charged With Drunken Driving
Andrew J. Newell, 19, of 17 Jerry St., Warwick, was arrested at about 2:01 a.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.
According to police, an officer clocked a green Honda driven by Newell at 69 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone on Route 1 near Hampton Way. A traffic stop was made near Ridge Road.
Police said Newell smelled strongly of alcohol, and failed field sobriety tests, at which point he was arrested. Police said he refused to submit to chemical breath tests at headquarters.
According to police, Newell was processed and then released at about 5:10 a.m.
