Providence Man Turns Self In For Car Theft

Eric Butler, 42, of 208 Prarie Ave., Providence, was arrested at about 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 28 and charged with larceny greater than $1,500 – a 2009 grey Hyundai Accent.

According to police, on Dec. 28 they received a report of a car stolen from the Xtra Mart on Tower Hill Road. Police said that after an investigation, Butler was identified as a suspect.

Police said that they interviewed Butler about the theft on Jan. 28. Police said that Butler told them that following an argument with his wife outside of Bobby G’s, he took a walk and saw the car at the gas station.

He allegedly told police that he was aggravated and not thinking clearly, and drove the car to his home, throwing the keys in a nearby dumpster afterward.

According to police, Butler was arrested without incident. He was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court later that day.

Smithfield Woman Arrested for Warrant

Alicia S. Nichols, 21, of 27 Riverview Ave., Smithfield, was arrested at about 10:05 a.m. on Jan. 28. Police said a Third Division District Court warrant was out for her arrest.

According to police, they received a call from an officer at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal that Nichols had appeared there for a hearing, which revealed the court warrant out for her arrest.

Police said the warrant stemmed from Nichols not appearing at a court hearing on Jan. 18 for a North Providence police charge of felony drug possession.

According to police, Nichols was arrested and processed without incident. She was arraigned at Fourth Division District Court at about 10:30 a.m.
