SK Police Log: July 3 and 4, 2012

A South Kingstown teen is charged with felony drug possession after police allegedly found him going through cars on Sandy Bottom Shore Drive.

19-Year-Old SK Man Charged With Felony Drug Possession for Pills

Joseph George Anderson, 19, of 46 Sweet Fern Lane, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:10 a.m. on July 4 and charged with felony drug possession and possession of marijuana.

According to police, they received a call of a man with a backpack entering unlocked cars on Sandy Bottom Shore Drive. Police searched the area and found a man with a backpack at the intersection of Sandy Bottom Shore Drive and Celestial Heights Drive.

Police said that the man – Anderson – smelled of marijuana. When police asked if he had anything illegal on him, he handed them a small bag of marijuana.

According to police, a search of Anderson revealed an Alprazolam pill, a glass pipe, five pairs of sunglasses, two pairs of headphones, a bottle of Excedrin Migraine and a bottle of Blade Howl body spray.

Police said that interviews with several owners of cars on Sandy Bottom Shore Drive revealed no stolen items. Anderson was just charged for the possession offenses as a result.

Parent Upset That Police Cite Children For Possession of Alcohol

A 13-year-old boy that attends Curtis Corner Middle School and a 17-year-old boy were both cited for possession of alcohol at about 2:14 p.m. on July 4.

According to police, two officers on a security patrol noticed two young boys at a picnic table with two Olde English 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor. Police said when they approached the boys, they tried to hide the alcohol, but later admitted they had been drinking. They told police that two older men had asked them to watch it, and instead, they drank some.

Police said that when the parents of one of the boys responded, they were upset. Police said the parents said, “There are real crimes out here, and you cops are doing this ********,” and, “I can’t believe this ****ing ****, we call you and you never come when there is real crime going on.”

No further arrests were made.

South Kingstown Man Cited for Public Drinking

David G. Stoll, 44, of 115 Macarthur Boulevard, South Kingstown, was cited at about 6:50 p.m. on July 4 and charged with public drinking.

According to police, officers were checking a closed access point on the bike path shortly before the fireworks and noticed Stoll there, drinking Natural Ice beer. He was cited and then left the park.

Aaron Jackson, 48, of 507 High St., South Kingstown, was cited at about 10:42 p.m. on July 4 and charged with public drinking.

According to police, while on patrol they saw Jackson drinking from a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon near Bobby G’s. He was cited and the beer was disposed of.

Massachusetts Man Arrested for Suspended License

Lorenzo Moreira, 49, of 7 Reynolds Ave., Chelsea, MA, was arrested at about 1:12 a.m. on July 3 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Tower Hill Road clocked a car driven by Moreira at 63 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made as a result.

Police said a check of Moreira’s license revealed that it was suspended. He was arrested, transported to headquarters, processed and released at 2:40 a.m. He was also cited for speeding.
