According to police, as they questioned Russell he tried to delay with his responses, and he denied being involved in an accident. He allegedly told police that he had been at the beach all day, and that it wasn’t the police’s business where he was coming from or going to.

Police said the initial caller remained on scene. The caller told police that he had went to McDonald’s, and noticed Russell behind the wheel of the Jeep, passed out. The caller told police that as he was leaving McDonald’s, he saw the Jeep trying to squeeze between a concrete block and a silver vehicle, and the Jeep hit the car in the process.

According to police, Russell consented to field sobriety tests, which they said he failed. Police said they had to stop during the tests for Russell’s safety, and during one of them, he allegedly told them, “Wow, that’s a real tough one!”

Police arrested Russell and charged him with drunken driving. During booking, Russell allegedly told police that he hadn’t been driving several times. Police said he consented to chemical tests, and had blood alcohol levels of .291 and .297.

Police performed an inventory of Russell’s Jeep and noted that there were two bottles of Whiskey, one empty. Because of Russell’s intoxication, he was not released until 10:46 a.m. on June 23.
