This Weekend: Johnny Cake Festival, Kids' Fall Fest at OMF and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Children's Fall Festival: From 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, the South Kingstown Parks & Recreation Department will host a Children's Fall Festival at Old Mountain Field on Kingstown Road in Wakefield (rain location is South Kingstown High School) The free event will feature children's activities and games, sand art, pumpkin painting, face painting, entertainment and more!

"Be Aggressive" at URI:  At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, URI Theatre presents the drama, "Be Aggressive" by Annie Weisman in the Department's J Studio. The production, published in Smith and Kraus' Best Plays of 2001 and by Dramatists Play Service, is the offbeat telling of a classic tale of journey and catharsis in the complicated life of a teenage girl. Jim Gaffigan at Ryan Center: On Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m., the University of Rhode Island's Ryan Center will host comedian, Jim Gaffigan with a Special Guest. Johnny Cake Festival: Both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20, Kenyon's Grist Mill (21 Glen Rock Rd., West Kingston), will host its annual Johnny Cake Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Celebrate the harvest with more than 125 local vendors, including farms, artisans and restaurants. Enjoy free samples, mill tours, live music, animals and old-world demonstrations. Admission is $3 per person. Food and clothing donations to benefit the Jonnycake Center appreciated. Free parking at Washington County Fairgrounds (only minutes from the mill) with free shuttle buses. Click here for all the details!

Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.
