This Weekend: Pumpkin Races, Book & Bake Sale and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

CANE Childcare Fundraiser: The CANE Child Development Center of Wakefield will hold a breakfast this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 8-11 a.m. at South County Church of Christ (3510 Tower Hill Rd., Wakefield). Menu includes eggs, toast, sausage, hash browns, fruit, muffins, juice and coffee. Breakfast will be $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-7 (children under 3 are free). Raffle chances will also be offered. All proceeds will directly benefit the CANE Center.

Book & Bake Sale in Peace Dale: Mark your calendars for this Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the Friends of the Peace Dale Library's Book & Bake Sale. The sale will feature books, music, movies and more at bargain prices, in addition to an appetizing array of homemade baked goods. Also available for sale to benefit the Library, located at 1057 Kingstown Road in Peace Dale will be Friends of the Library tote bags, note cards and flash lights, as well as colorful, hand-knitted hats created by Library staff and friends.

SK Pumpkin Races: At 12:30 p.m. this Saturday, the South Kingstown Parks & Recreation Department will host the First Annual Pumpkin Races at the Curtis Corner Middle School playfields. Participants will decorate pumpkin, insert axles, attach wheels and race downhill against other pumpkins! Registration will be done on the day of the race. $5 per entry, $8 if kits are provided. Click here to view the event flyer for complete details. 

Community Flu Clinic: From 4-6:30 p.m. Saturday, South County Hospital will host a flu vaccination clinic at Christ the King Church, located at 180 Old North Rd., Kingston. Vaccinations will be available to individuals age 19 and older. English Country Dance: At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn, located at 17 Matunuck Beach Road, Matunuck, will host an English Country Dance. The event will feature full instruction by dance leader Martha Griffin, live music by Dawn Chung and Cindy Ladd, light refreshments, great exercise and fun! All are welcome. No experience or partner needed, but be sure to wear flat shoes and causal, comfortable clothing. $10 general admission.

Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.

SCAA Annual Meeting: At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, the South County Art Association will hold its 2013 Annual Meeting at the Helme House (2587 Kingstown Rd., Kingston). Officers will be elected and both the 2013-2014 calendar schedule and budget will be presented. Revisions made to the SCAA by-laws will also be approved. Following official business, the Board will provide a buffet-style luncheon for everyone to enjoy. Click here for more information.
