Town Of Narragansett Cooling Centers For Heatwave

The designated centers will be open and made available to the public during normal business hours.

The Narragansett Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the RI Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) have identified the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library – 25 Pier Market Place and the Narragansett Community Center – 53 Mumford Road as the Warming and Cooling Centers for our community. These buildings are equipped with an emergency generator and can be fully operational.

The designated centers will be open and made available to the public during normal business hours.

Maury Loontjens Memorial Library - current business hours: (subject to change)

  1. Monday – Thursday, 9:30 AM – 8:00 PM
  2. Friday 9:30 AM - 6 PM
  3. Saturday 9:30 - 2 PM with no Sunday hours currently

Narragansett Community Center – current business hours:

  1. Monday - Friday 8:30am-4:30PM and as needed after hours based on the emergency

Should severe weather conditions warrant – both the Library and Community Center may extend hours beyond the normal scheduled operating times which will be posted on the town’s website and social media. Library and Community Center services will not be available during any extension of hours for the warming/cooling center.

Information about the opening of the local warming/cooling center or any changes related to the hours will be available on the Town of Narragansett’s website - https://www.narragansettri.gov/ and other related town social media websites https://www.narragansettri.gov/590/Social-Media

Residents should be encouraged to sign up for notifications through the town-wide emergency notification system entitled Code Red; notifications are sent via phone, text and/or email. https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF4AD05330A8

Residents may also register for other specific types of notifications to be received via email through the town’s “Alert Center" located on the town website; notifications are sent via email only. https://www.narragansettri.gov/list.aspx
