Wakefield Man Charged With Heroin Distribution
Kevin R. Choquette, 26, is charged with felony heroin distribution after a traffic stop on June 22.

A Wakefield man with more than a dozen previous misdemeanors was charged with felony drug possession and distribution following a traffic stop last week.
Kevin R. Choquette, 26, of 20 Victory St., Wakefield, was arrested at about 6:27 p.m. on June 22 and charged with two counts of felony drug distribution and one count of felony drug possession.
According to police, Choquette was arrested at a traffic stop in the 600-section of Saugatucket Road. However, details of the traffic stop were unavailable.

Police searched Choquette at headquarters, and allegedly found a small glassine baggy with heroin inside of it.
Based on reports, police received information that Choquette was distributing heroin from a storage unit on Church Street. However, no further details were available. A confidential informant was used.

According to the online database for the Rhode Island Judiciary, Choquette has pleaded no contest to 13 charges dating back to 2004:
- In February 2011, Choquette pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to serve a year-long suspended sentence and a year of probation.
- In July 2008, Choquette pleaded no contest to a Narragansett police charge of simple assault. He was ordered to serve a year of probation.
- In February 2008, Choquette pleaded no contest to a North Kingstown police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs.
- In November 2006, Choquette pleaded no contest to an East Providence police charge of procuring alcohol for a minor. He was ordered to serve six months probation and to complete substance abuse counseling. After a later violation of his probation in July 2007, he was ordered to serve six months at the ACI.
- In June 2006, Choquette pleaded no contest to a Rhode Island State Police charge emanating from the Lincoln barracks of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs, and to serve a year of probation.
- Also in June 2006, Choquette pleaded guilty to a Providence police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs.
- In February 2005, Choquette pleaded no contest to South Kingstown police charges of drunken driving, resisting arrest and obstruction. He was ordered to serve a year of probation and a year-long suspended sentence, to surrender his license for six months, and to complete 20 hours of community service and DWI treatment. In return for his plea, additional charges of driving a motor vehicle without owner consent, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving were dismissed.
- Also in February 2005, Choquette pleaded no contest to South Kingstown police charges of writing fraudulent checks and failing to answer to a summons. He was ordered to serve a year of probation, to pay restitution and to make a donation to the Violent Crimes Indemnity Fund.
- In May 2004, Choquette pleaded no contest to a Narragansett police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay a fine and court costs.
- In April 2004, Choquette pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to pay court costs.
A status conference was held for the felony drug charges on June 27, and another status conference and felony screening is scheduled for August 7. Choquette is being held at the ACI because he couldn't post surety bail after the hearing on June 27.
