What's Open/Closed on Thanksgiving Day?

Rhode Island's blue laws don't allow much to open on Thursday. Here's a look at what's open and closed.

Rhode Island rolls up the sidewalks, and many stores close Wednesday night. But there are still places to go, if you need a few items. The 24-hour CVS stays open all day. (The Middletown store saved a Thanksgiving one year when The Gabby Dog, Asia, the immortal tabby, and the human sidekick drove down from New Hampshire and found practically nothing open.) CVS also has 24-hour stores in Wakefield (11 Main St.), Coventry (263 Tiogue Ave.), Cranston (681 Reservoir Ave.), Johnston (1400 Hartford Ave.), North Smithfield (120 Eddie Dowling Highway), East Providence (640 Warren Ave.), and other locations. Click here for a list. Some of the other CVS stores are open, and some are not. The Newport CVS on Broadway is closed. Others open for limited hours.

But most fast food stores, like Dunkin' Donuts and McDonalds, will be shuttered. Like most businesses in Rhode Island, they are closed thanks to blue laws established by the Puritans in the 1600s and still followed in Rhode Island today.

Call ahead for Friday because some libraries and town halls take a long weekend.
