Why Morgan Liked It: I found the character of Daunis Fontaine fascinating. Daunis is 18 years old, biracial, and searching for answers on where she fits in within the Ojibwe reservation. Born to an enrolled Ojibwe tribal member and a white women from a nearby town, she has long vacillated between the two worlds, seeking to honor her Ojibwe heritage and community, while being pulled away from it by her white family members. I appreciated the inclusion of indigenous language throughout the book, and the realistic portrayal of indigenous life as can only truly be portrayed in own voices literature. This book was exciting and engaging and I couldn’t put it down!
In Three Words: Indigenous own voice
