NEW SHOREHAM, RI — Ocean State Job Lot donated 14 electric bicycles valued at $1,300 each to the New Shoreham Police Department to assist in the Community Service Officer policing internship program during Block island's busy summer season.

The privately-held retail chain will provide more than 20 additional electric bikes to the Narragansett Police Department and Jamestown Police Department in the coming weeks.
The police department this year launched the CSO internship program for college students enrolled in criminal justice programs. Eight applicants were accepted into the 14-week program and are spending the summer on the island.

“We appreciate Ocean State Job Lot’s support for our community policing program. This very kind
donation gives our CSOs the ability to patrol a wider area so they can better support our sworn
officers,” said New Shoreham Police Chief Matthew C. Moynihan. “The CSO program has been a real force multiplier for us this year as we work to keep Block Island safe for residents and visitors alike.”
The GenZe E222B electric bikes are made in the U.S. and feature an 18-inch step-thru aluminum frame, a 350-watt rear-hub motor with pedal assist, 90mm drum brakes, a Shimano 8-speed derailleur, and thumb shifters. The commercial-grade e-bikes were delivered fully assembled, tested and with a 42-volt charger.

New Shoreham Town Manager Maryanne Crawford said she was grateful for the e-bike donation. “We’re enjoying a busy summer here, and having the CSOs has been an important part of our public safety efforts.”

“Ocean State Job Lot is deeply committed to assisting our local communities in a variety of ways,” said David Sarlitto, executive director of the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation. “We appreciate our first responders and hope the electric bicycles will assist in their community safety programs and will also cut down on the number of vehicles on the roadways in these busy summer tourism destinations.”
