High School Wind Turbine Building Competition Slated For This Weekend

The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Rhode Island High School Wind Turbine Competition at CCRI.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — On Saturday, the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Rhode Island High School Wind Turbine Competition in collaboration with nationally recognized KidWind at the Community College of Rhode Island Knight Campus in Warwick.

This year, the competition features two divisions: the KidWind Division and the Advanced Division. Teams from Charles E. Shea, Warwick Area Career and Technical Center, Exeter West Greenwich, and Central Falls have prepared for months, utilizing Whitebox simulation software to design, 3D print, and rigorously test their turbine blades. Teams in the KidWind Division will employ a KidWind generator, while those in the Advanced Division have the flexibility to use either a home-built or purchased generator.

"Affordable clean energy is the future, and I'm proud to see our state's next generation of leaders participate in the WindWinRI fourth Annual Rhode Island High School Wind Competition," U.S. Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI), said. "It’s programs like this that will set students up for success for good-paying jobs and drive our nation’s transition to an affordable clean energy economy."
