The store was closed after 15 people were evaluated. They started coughing in a section of the store near the pharmacy.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The Walmart Superstore in North Kingstown was evacuated and one person went to the hospital after firefighters responded to a hazardous materials incident Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. Chief Scott Kettelle said crews are still on scene.

Some 15 people started coughing in a section of the store near the pharmacy. The symptoms apparently were caused by an irritant. Those affected were evaluated by medics.

A technician arrived at about 3:45 p.m. to examine the possible cause — a rooftop heating unit.
