NKHS Student Snaps Humanity for Senior Project

A North Kingstown High School senior inspired by "Humans of New York" is compiling a book with portraits of and stories from locals.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—The wildly successful Humans of New York originated as an ambitious but simple project to document everyday people going about their business.

Brandon Stanton, the brainchild of HONY, never imagined his small project and Facebook page would grow into such a phenomenon, with millions of followers, a bestselling book and opportunities to meet the President and people from corners across the globe.

Here, a local high school student is taking the model trail-blazed by Stanton for her senior project.

Caterina Maina has been busy producing her book, Humans of Rhode Island and is selling it for $15.

"Like Humans of New York, I am going all over Rhode Island, taking photographs of people and interviewing them and will use their sayings, stories, and words as captions to the photos," Maina said. "This book is a way to show all of the many interesting people who live in our little state. With their stories, I hope to allow people to feel closer to where they live (and you'll probably find someone you know because this is Rhode Island after all) ."
