NKPD Gets 2 New Officers

With these two hires, the police department is "pretty much at full staff – 45 sworn officers," says Chief Mulligan.

The North Kingstown Police Department swore in two new officers last week, one an NK native and one from Providence. The hires bring the force to full staffing.

"I've just always wanted to be a police officer, growing up in town," said Timothy Daly, a 2007 graduate of NKHS. "I want to be able to hopefully give back to my community that's always given to me."

Raymond Ho, from Providence, said he wanted to become a police officer to help others and give back.

"It's someting I've always wanted to do since I was a kid. Watching all those tv shows and I wanted to do that as well," he said.

"Officers Daly and Ho fill positions created by one officer who went to the New York State Police and the other to the MBTA," said Police Chief Thomas Mulligan. "We're pretty much at full staff – 45 sworn police officers."

The new officers spent 20 weeks training at the police academy. Now they will train for another 12 weeks with an "FTO" or field training officer, "to learn procedures and application of what they learned at the academy," Mulligan said. Their probation period last a year from their swearing in.

"They'll learn a lot in the first year. It's a job that changes quite often," he continued. "Through the course of their career they'll see quite a bit in what seemingly seems a small, quiet town."
