NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A North Kingstown man was sentenced to 17 years in state prison after pleading to sexually assaulting a child.

On Wednesday, Daniel Peckham, 36, pleaded nolo contendere to two counts of first-degree child molestation. Following his prison sentence, Peckham must serve 40 years of probation, register as a sex offender, attend sex offender counseling, and be subject to community supervision.

"Far too often, victims of sexual assault suffer in silence, and perpetrators get away with their terrible crimes because they go unreported," Attorney General Peter Neronha said. "Thankfully, this victim demonstrated remarkable bravery in coming forward. When victims feel safe to come forward, we are able to hold accountable perpetrators of sexual violence and keep our communities safer. I want to thank the North Kingstown Police Department for their partnership on this difficult case."
