Police Investigating Shooting in North Kingstown

One shot was fired on Merrill Lane Monday night; nobody was struck and police said it was an isolated incident.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—Police are investigating a shooting on Merrill Lane in North Kingstown Monday night and an arrest appears imminent.

North Kingstown Police Capt. Steven St. Onge said that the shooting was related to a “property dispute between two subjects” and police are actively seeking an arrest warrant for a suspect who is not immediately being identified. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

The shooting happened at around 8:12 p.m. and the street was closed for a period of time as police investigated the scene.

One shot was fired, police said, and the bullet was fired into the ground.

Merrill Lane is a relatively new road built with the Kingstown Crossings apartment complex, an affordable 58-unit complex that opened in 2011.

“We do have a suspect,” St. Onge said, nothing that the general public should not feel unsafe as the incident was a dispute between people who are known to each other.

“I don’t feel the public has to worry about it at all,” the captain said. “They won’t be back. They know that we know who they are. They didn’t go out of their way to conceal themselves.”

Police will release more information at a later time.
