Short-Change Con Artists Hit North Kingstown Walmart

Several con artists have been targeting local businesses using the common flim-flam short-change scam.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI—North Kingstown police said on Thursday that they are also investigating a short-change scammer who targeted a local business.

Police said a woman stole $480 from the North Kingstown Walmart using the scam, commonly known as a flim-flam scam.

The scam relies on confusing the cashier after the scammer asks for change for one or more large bills.

Earlier this week, South Kingstown police sounded the alarm after two women and a man targeted a local business in their town and bilked a grocery store out of $200.

The suspects all appear to be of Indian descent.

The North Kingstown police said that the woman was seen leaving the Walmart in a black SUV. In South Kingstown, the suspects climbed into a dark-colored Chevrolet Venture minivan before leaving the scene.
