PAWTUCKET, RI — The Looff Carousel at Slater Memorial Park is celebrating its 125th birthday, and a jubilee celebration is planned for Saturday, July 17.

The carousel was built in 1895 by Charles I. D. Looff, a German immigrant who created the first carousel at Coney Island in 1876. The Pawtucket carousel was relocated to Slater Park in 1910, where it continues to operate. The carousel has a functioning band organ as well as 44 standing horses, one camel, three dogs, one giraffe, one lion, and two chariots.

Everyone is invited to the Looff Carousel 125th Birthday Jubilee. Gates to Slater Memorial Park will open at noon. Guests will be treated to free carousel rides, performances, carnival games, food trucks, vendors, crafts and activities, and birthday cake, while supplies last.
