1. Two 'Rise Of The Moors' members face new charges in Rhode Island.
Attorney General Peter Neronha announced arrest warrants for two men affiliated with "Rise of the Moors." Jahmal Talib Abdulla Bey, a Tolman graduate, and Quinn Cumberlander, a Pawtucket resident, are already incarcerated in Massachusetts following a July 3 armed standoff with police. Bey is the self-styled leader of a group of "Moorish Nationals" who were operating out of Providence. Its members claim that state and federal laws don't apply to them. (Pawtucket Patch)
2. Former Central Falls Mayor James Diossa to be honored at the White House.
You heard that right. "Through hard work and the development of strategic partnerships, James turned Central Falls around, stabilizing the city’s finances and raising its long-term bond rating to investment grade... Most recently, James led efforts to partner with the neighboring city of Pawtucket to create a unified response to the COVID-19 pandemic." Diossa has been nominated by President Joe Biden to the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation, an entity established by Congress in 1986. (WhiteHouse.Gov)
3. New law allows more beverage sales at RI breweries, distilleries.
A new Rhode Island law lets craft breweries and distilleries sell far more of their bottled beverages to guests who want to stock up on their favorite ales and whiskeys. One Pawtucket brewer explains why the new rules are so important to small, locally-run breweries. (Pawtucket Patch)
4. Hasbro promotes new Global Brands leader from within.
The leader of Hasbro‘s newly created Global Consumer Innovation Organization unit has been hired from within. In her new role, Kim Boyd will drive the company’s brands globally with consumer-led innovation. Boyd will be based in Hasbro’s Pawtucket headquarters and report to Eric Nyman, chief consumer officer and COO of Hasbro. (The Toy Report)
5. The Looff Carousel at Slater Park will celebrate its 125th birthday.
Everyone is invited to Slater Park on Saturday, June 17 for free carousel rides, entertainment, and a nighttime screening of Toy Story 4. The carousel was built in 1895 by Charles I. D. Looff, a master carver from Germany. It was moved to Pawtucket in 1910. (Pawtucket Patch)
