Pawtucket Opens Cooling Centers At Visitors Center, Senior Center
People without air conditioning are invited to spend time at the cooling centers during the current heat wave.

PAWTUCKET, RI — Because of extreme high heat anticipated this week, the City of Pawtucket has opened cooling centers:
• The Blackstone Valley Visitors Center at 175 Main Street is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and people are encouraged to stop by if they lack access to air conditioning during the heat wave.
• The Leon Mathieu Senior Center at 420 Main Street is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the doors are open to people who need to cool off.

"It is important that our residents know they have safe and air-conditioned places available to them, particularly our elderly population,” said Mayor Donald Grebien in a news release. Grebien noted that the elderly are vulnerable to heat-related illnesses that can be potentially fatal.
“Please share with anyone who may benefit from these resources,” Grebien said.
