Segue Legacy High School Marks New Chapter with Shovel Ceremony in Pawtucket
Event marks beginning of renovations to the school's permanent home, continuation of its mission to build the next generation of educators

The Segue Institute for Learning (Segue IFL), an independent public charter school district, celebrated an important milestone today with a shovel ceremony at Segue Legacy High School, located at 1080 Main Street in Pawtucket. The event marked the beginning of renovations to the school’s permanent home and the continuation of its mission to build the next generation of educators and community leaders.
In attendance were Rhode Island Commissioner of Education Angélica Infante-Green, Mr. Jeremy Chiapetta from the Governor’s Office, and representatives from the school community, including teachers, staff, and students who gathered to commemorate the next phase of Segue’s journey.
Segue Legacy High School, established in 2024 by Segue IFL Founders Angelo Garcia and Dr. Melissa Lourenço, was created with a clear purpose: to prepare students for careers in education—teaching, administration, nursing, counseling, and other roles that strengthen schools and communities. The goal is to help decrease the shortage of teachers in the urban core, particularly teachers of color, by cultivating talent from within the community itself.

In its first year, Legacy High School made an immediate impact, finishing #1 in attendance among all public high schools in Rhode Island. Now in its second year, the school continues to grow—both in size and in vision. The building at 1080 Main Street, a former law firm, is being renovated for 21st-century learning, featuring learning stations instead of traditional classrooms, and “laboratory classrooms” designed for model K–3 lessons where Legacy Scholars can gain hands-on teaching experience.
Through dual enrollment partnerships with Rhode Island College, the Community College of Rhode Island, and Providence College, students can earn college credits while still in high school—giving them a head start on their professional pathways in education.

“This is a proud moment for Segue and for the city of Pawtucket,” said Angelo Garcia, Founder of the Segue Institute for Learning. “Legacy High School represents hope, innovation, and opportunity. We’re preparing students not just to graduate, but to return to their communities as the educators and leaders our schools need most.”
Renovations will continue through the school year, with students and staff shaping a space that reflects the creativity, purpose, and sense of mission that define Segue Legacy High School.
