7 Injured In Trolley Crash In Portsmouth

A trolley overturned during a private event in Portsmouth, causing emergency officials to declare a mass casualty event.

PORTSMOUTH, RI — A trolley overturned in Portsmouth Saturday night, injuring seven people, fire officials said.

Around 10:47 p.m., Portsmouth firefighters and paramedics received multiple 911 calls reporting the overturned trolley with several injured patients at a private event.

The first arriving responders started triaging patients by severity of their injuries. The shift commander declared a level 1 mass casualty event due to the amount of patients involved.

In total, seven patients were taken to local hospitals, fire officials said. Four patients were taken to Newport Hospital, and three were transported to St. Anne's Hospital.
