Portsmouth: Crash Monday Afternoon

A local woman escaped injury Monday when another driver slammed her head-on.

PORTSMOUTH, RI—A 53-year-old woman escaped injury when a driver under the influence slammed his Cadillac head-on into her Chevrolet. Police said the accident happened Monday around 4 p.m. on East Main Road near Ethel Drive. The road was closed for more than an hour while rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to remove at least one driver from a crumpled car. They also administered Narcan twice to Michael Lima, 38. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police said he was headed south on East Main when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the woman's car. Lima, of Portsmouth, is being charged with Driving under the influence (of drugs or alcohol, first offense, and Refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police also cited him for traffic violations.
