Portsmouth Patch Readers Miss These Former Businesses The Most
From Benny's to duck pin bowling, these Aquidneck Island standbys are gone, but not forgotten.
PORTSMOUTH, RI — Rhode Island culture is shaped by nostalgia. From reminiscing about the fresh tire smell at Benny's to browsing the aisles at Apex to giving directions based on where a business "used to be," Ocean State residents love to talk about the way things used to be.
With that in mind, Patch wanted to know — what restaurants and stores do Portsmouth residents miss the most? More than two dozen people replied; here's a look at some of the most popular places.
Benny's was, of course, high on the list. The popular store closed all of its locations for good in 2017 and 2018 after nearly a century in business.
