Portsmouth Ranks Among Least Violent Communities in RI

Portsmouth ranked 34th out of 37 Rhode Island communities according to 2012 FBI data.

Portsmouth is ranked as one of the state's least violent communities, according to analysis conducted by golocalprov.com. The study used 2012 crime statistics released by the FBI earlier this week.

Out of thirty-seven Rhode Island communities that report crime data to the FBI, Portsmouth ranked as number 34 on the list. Of the five violent crimes reported in Portsmouth for the year, the report lists only 5 aggravated assaults.

That number is expected to rise next year after the fatal stabbing that occurred this past February on a RIPTA bus.
