3 Wounded In Providence Drive-By Shooting 1 Hour 13 Minutes Into New Year: Cops
The shooters opened fire on a Berkshire Street residence where there had been a "large gathering," police said.
PROVIDENCE, RI — Three were wounded in a Providence drive-by shooting less than an hour and 15 minutes into the New Year, police said.
Officers responded to Berkshire Street near March Street about 1:13 a.m. Thursday to investigate a report of a shooting, Anthony Vega, a spokesman for the police department, said in an email.

"Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds," Vega said.
"One victim sustained a graze wound to the head, a second victim was shot in the shoulder area and a third victim sustained a gunshot wound near the temple," he said. "All three victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were reported to be stable and alert."

Officers found a bullet hole in the back window of a parked car and shell casings in the street, according to a police report.

"It should be noted that there had been a large gathering at (the Berkshire Street) residence prior to the shooting, requiring police to clear the 1st and second floor of the residence," the report said.
"Numerous" people at the scene of the shooting related to officers that the shooters pulled up in a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Honda, and opened fire on the residence before fleeing toward Admiral Street, according to the report.

"Preliminary investigation and video evidence indicate the incident was a drive-by shooting.," Vega said. "Detectives are continuing to investigate."
