Here are the top five stories in Providence today:
- Mayor Jorge Elorza and Commissioner Steven Paré were joined by families of two homicide victims for a press conference about bail policies, held earlier this week. The group spoke about recent Superior Court judgments that allowed violent offenders to be released on bail. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- According to an annual study by the Chronicle of Higher Education, Brown University's president, Christina Paxson, is the highest-paid college president in Rhode Island. (GoLocalProv)
- Providence police officer Jeann Lugo has filed paperwork with the Rhode Island Board of Elections to mount a Republican run for the state's lieutenant governor. (The Providence Journal)
- Last May former Providence Superintendent Harrison Peters resigned. Since then, Dr. Javier Montañez, has been the district's acting Superintendent. Impatient for a permanent Superintendent to be hired, parents are putting pressure on the R.I. Department of Education. (WPRI.com)
