  1. The Rhode Island Blood Center declared an emergency donation appeal this year as local and national supplies drop to critically low levels. Kara LeBlanc with the Rhode Island Blood Center has stated that the local hospitals are at a one to two day supply of blood. Unlike years past when there’s been a local shortage, they can’t request blood from other parts of the country because these shortages are being felt nationwide. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
  2. Two RI hospitals have received a new designation for their efforts to prevent antibiotic overuse. The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital have each been designated as an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). The hospitals are being recognized for their efforts to stem antibiotic overuse and deter drug-resistant superbugs. (WPRI.com)
