Here are the top three stories in Providence today:
- One person was arrested following a foot chase in Providence. On Wednesday afternoon, police saw a vehicle driving erratically near Memorial Boulevard and Canal Street around 3 p.m. and followed it from afar. Multiple suspects got out of the car and ran near the Rhode Island Department of Health, and one man was apprehended at the scene. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- On Friday, the Providence City Council will be holding an emergency meeting to prevent a "mass firing" over the vaccine mandate. The meeting was called by City Council President John Igliozzi to try and establish new procedures within the city for mass termination. An ordinance will be voted on by The City Council, which would require the Commissioner of Public Safety, the Director of Human Resources, or any other City official to provide a clear explanation for mass terminations and an appropriate staffing plan for the impacted department. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- A new smartphone app allows Providence restaurants to curb food waste across the state by offering discounted goods. According to U.S. Head of Marketing Claire Oliverson, the app “Too Good To Go” allows users to request “surprise bags” from participating restaurants. In the few months since its launch, 50 restaurants have utilized the app and saved nearly 3,000 meals. (WPRI.com)
