Here are the top three stories in Providence today:
- A firefighter was taken to the hospital after a North Providence house fire on Belvedere Boulevard. The Friday morning fire broke out on the second floor at around 3 a.m., due to causes which are still under investigation. No injuries were reported, and within 20 minutes, crews were able to control the fire. (WPRI.com)
- On Thursday night, Providence City Councilors sent an open letter to Governor Dan McKee regarding their concerns over the state's COVID-19 response. The Councilors expressed concerns with COVID affecting the youth in Rhode Island, as COVID cases continue to surge in younger demographics. As of Friday, the Governor had not responded to the open letter. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- A 21-year-old woman was shot in the head in Providence on Thursday night. Just before 11 p.m., the victim was found by police in the passenger seat of a car with an apparent gunshot wound to the forehead at a gas station on Elmwood Avenue. According to police, the victim and driver of the vehicle were not cooperating with the investigation. (WPRI.com)
