Here are the top three stories today in Providence:

  1. A Providence school had to increase security after their inclusive Valentine’s message gained national attention. Moses Brown School recently sent a message to families asking them to "please coach your child if purchasing commercially produced cards to select something that does not feel 'gender normative' (with separate 'boy cards' vs. 'girl cards,' for instance.)" and also consider talking to your child about avoiding cards that portray only White human characters." On Tuesday, Fox News picked up the story and aired a segment regarding the school’s message, with headlines reading "RI School Issues Woke Valentine's Day Card Rules." Due to the increased media coverage, the school has increased its security measures through at least early next week. (GoLocalProv)
  2. A late-night crash on I-95 left one car up in flames. Rhode Island state police responded to the two-car crash on Monday night that occurred in the southbound lane near Exit 22 around 10:30 p.m. The impact of the collision caused one car to catch on fire, and the drivers involved each suffered minor injuries. (WPRI)
  3. The father of the woman who was pulled from the second floor of a burning home over the weekend says she suffered significant burns. Drumins Errera, the father of 28-year-old Rosa Martinez, says the woman is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital for burns on 25 percent of her body. The Sunday afternoon fire at the Louisa Street home is still under investigation, although the building has been deemed a total loss. (WPRI)
