- A Providence College professor has been awarded the largest federal grant in PC history. Laura Hauerwas, Professor of Education, has been awarded an $11.3 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education for a project titled Testing the Impact of Self-Regulation Strategy Development (SRSD). The Program plans to study and refine the SRSD writing process, with a focus on Social Emotional Learning in their attempts. (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- Police broke up a fight involving over 30 people in front of the house where a rapper was murdered. On Saturday night, James Owens — a Providence rapper who performed under the name "Hammer Beanz" — was the victim of a homicide in front of 89 Huxley Street near Providence College, where he was shot and killed. Police were called to the location again on Monday and ordered a crowd of people fighting in the middle of the street to disperse, which police said happened without further incident. (GoLocalProv)
- A truck crashed into several vehicles and a home on the east side of Providence on Wednesday morning. At the intersection of Gano and Pitman streets, there were at least four vehicles with damage, including a pickup truck near the house, which appears to have caught fire. It’s unclear if anyone was injured or what led to the crash. (WPRI.com)
