Here are the top three stories in Providence today:
- Rhode Island may join seven other states in allowing pharmacists to prescribe and dispense birth control products to patients. New legislation was approved by the state's House of Representatives this week. If signed into law, the bill would require that pharmacists complete a training program before writing prescriptions. - Shortly after 9:30 Friday night, a 26-year-old male explained to police that he had been robbed leaving Providence Place Mall. According to police, the victim said he was walking down One Finance Way when approximately 5-6 teen boys, ages of 12 and 16 approached him and “jumped” him. The victim had his cell phone stolen and suffered minor injuries. (GoLocalProv)
- Giving credence to the bill passed recently by the U.S. Senate that would make daylight saving time permanent, Associate Director of the Bradley Hospital Sleep Research Laboratory, Jared Saletin said keeping standard time is better and explained that changing the time twice a year, "... has detrimental effects on mental health. It's even been linked to things like car crashes the day after the time switch." (Turn to 10)
