Here are the top stories today in Providence:

  1. Police continue to investigate after a man was shot and killed near Providence College over the weekend. The victim, identified Monday as 33-year-old James Owens, was shot multiple times Saturday night at his home on Huxley Avenue, according to Maj. David Lapatin. Owens was found in the driveway and rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where he later died. (WPRI.com)
  2. Providence is allocating nearly $500,000 in federal pandemic relief funds to address homelessness in the city. Mayor Jorge Elorza and several city councilors announced last week that the money would go to Crossroads Rhode Island, a leading housing and homeless services organization, to operate a citywide mobile diversion program. Crossroads and its community partners will use the money to expand its mobile diversion and intervention programs, connecting with people who are either homeless or living in places unfit for human habitation to get them the help they need.   3. A Providence man was sentenced Monday to serve four years in state prison for illegal gun possession. (Turn to 10)
