Providence Man Sentenced For Providing Cocaine To Distributors In RI, MA

Prosecutors say Jonathan Masa-Gonzalez was responsible for brokering the sale of several kilograms of cocaine to the drug ring's leader.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Providence man was sentenced Tuesday to five years in federal prison for providing mid-level drug distributors and street-level dealers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts with kilos of cocaine.

Jonathan Masa-Gonzalez, 29, pleaded guilty in June 2024, to conspiracy to distribute and to possesses with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

He was among more than a dozen people charged in September 2021 in connection to Project Safe Neighborhoods, a large-scale investigation into drug trafficking in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Federal prosecutors said many of the people charged had already been convicted of violent crimes, including robbery, assault, and domestic violence.

According to court documents, Masa-Gonzalez was responsible for brokering the sale of several kilograms of cocaine to the drug ring's leader.

Following his prison sentence, Masa-Gonzalez must serve five years of federal probation.
