Here are the top three stories today in Providence:
- Providence Restaurant Week is returning for two weeks in Jan. Beginning Jan. 9 through 22, 45 different restaurants from across the state will present special dishes as well as prix fixe menus, lunch, dinner, and other specials. According to Kristen Adamo, president and CEO of the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau, “for more than 10 years, the Providence Restaurant Weeks winter campaign has made some of the area’s hottest dishes available to locals and visitors at incredible prices.” (WLNE-TV (ABC6))
- A woman is being treated at Roger Williams Hospital after she was stabbed in Providence on Tuesday morning. Detectives are currently investigating the stabbing, which occurred on Smith Hill. The victim was uncooperative, according to police, and only told officers the incident occurred on Zone Street, off Chalkstone Avenue. (GoLocalProv)
- Up to 80 Providence police officers may face termination as the deadline approaches for the city's new vaccine mandate. Last week, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza enacted the mandate which requires all city employees — excluding those in the school department — to be at least partially vaccinated by Jan. 14 or else face “separation from city employment.” Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré has estimated “70 to 80” of the roughly 450 sworn personnel in the department have refused to get a shot so far.
